feed365

While holiday generosities are greatly appreciated, Mission Centers of Houston is aware that people are hungry 365 days each year, not just during Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition to traditional holiday food ministries, FEED 365 is an effort to feed Houston's hungry for an entire year.

A Look at Hunger in Southeast Texas:
• 47% are children
• 49% of households have at least one working adult
• 94% are not homeless
• 18% of the clients are Anglo, 39% are African-American, and 41% are Hispanic; a fairly balanced cross-section of our community.
(Houston Food Bank, 2010)

Currently, Mission Centers of Houston purchases food from Houston's Food Bank as well as receives donations from local churches, individuals and organizations. These food drives are not always solicited or planned by MCH, and therefore not always anticipated. FEED 365 will involve those groups who currently do food drives and also enlist new partners to assist with food distribution needs.

How does FEED 365 work?

Mission Centers of Houston needs 24 churches or groups to commit to a food drive for one month during 2012 (12 churches/groups for Gano Mission Center and 12 churches/groups for Joy Fellowship Center). A list of needed food items can be found below. Each food drive is publicized by the church or organization and delivered to one of our food pantries (either Gano Mission Center of Joy Fellowship) on the first Monday of the month following the food drive. (For instance, if your group has adopted the Gano Mission Center's food pantry in January, 2012, you will deliver the food items to Gano on the first Monday of February). In order to plan our food distribution, we need each sponsoring church or organization to sign up by emailing info@missioncenters.org. Please tell us the name of your group and the month that you'd like to sponsor. It's that easy!
