Noche Buena is the night before Jesus' birth. It's a time of thanksgiving when families share food with each other to celebrate the Gift of God.
In Harris County, 1 in 4 children go to bed hungry every night - this number is even greater in Houston's inner city. You and your family can experience the joy of giving by helping Mission Centers of Houston collect grocery items for families in need at Christmas.
This Christmas, MCH wants to provide 1,000 meals for 1,000 families.
You can help! We need donors to provide the grocery bags and volunteers to distribute the food. See below for our current volunteer needs and for donation information.
Use the shopping list below to purchase items needed and place in a paper grocery bag. Please note: We need each bag to be identical so please put all of the items from our shopping list in 1 bag. Deliver your bag(s) anytime between 9 am and 5 pm to Gano Mission Center during the days of December 6 - 8, 2010. Your food will be distributed to families in need. If you are planning to participate in Noche Buena, please email your contact information to info@missioncenters.org so that we can plan effectively. Thank you for your participation!
Shopping List:
Canned ham (Family Size)
Cooking oil
Masa (Tortilla Flour)
5 lb bag of beans
5 lb bag of rice
5 lb of sugar
5 lb bag of fresh oranges
2 Packs of dinner rolls
2 Cans of corn (whole kernel or niblets)
3 Cans of vegetables (green beans, peas or other green vegetable)
2 Bags of dry cookie mix
We need each bag to be identical, so please collect everything on the list above.
Volunteer Needs:
Gano Mission Center - December 9, 2010:
December 9:
20 volunteers are needed to sort and move food to the appropriate Center from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm
Fletcher Mission Center - December 11, 2010:
10 volunteers needed to distribute the food from 9:00 am-Noon
Joy Fellowship Center - December 9 & 13, 2010:
December 9:
5 volunteers to sort food from 10:00 am-Noon
December 13:
5 volunteers to distribute food from 8:30am-1:00 pm
